ASSISTANT GEOLOGIST
Position: Assistant Geologist

Job Summary:
An
Assistant Geologist is responsible for supporting mine geologists and
engineers in geological surveys, exploration activities, and data
analysis.
This position involves assisting in fieldwork, collecting
samples, conducting laboratory analyses, and maintaining geological
databases.
The Assistant Geologist is an integral part of the team
responsible for identifying potential mining sites, evaluating mineral
resources, and ensuring the accuracy of geological data used in mining
operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fieldwork Assistance.
- Assist mine geologists in conducting geological surveys and field mapping to identify potential mineral deposits.
- Collect rock, soil, and core samples from designated locations using appropriate sampling techniques.
2. Sample Preparation and Analysis
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper labelling and documentation of sample origin.
- Assist
in conducting basic geological analyses and tests, such as mineral
identification, grain size analysis, and density measurements.
3. Data Entry and Documentation
- Enter
geological data into databases accurately and maintain organized
records of samples, survey findings, and analysis results. - Assist in the preparation of detailed geological reports, maps, and diagrams under the guidance of Mine geologists.
4. Geological Mapping
- Assist in creating geological maps and cross-sections based on field observations and sample analysis.
- Collaborate with mine geologists to identify and document geological formations, mineralization, and structural features.
5. Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain geological equipment, tools, and instruments to ensure they are ingood working condition.
- Assist in the calibration and proper usage of geophysical and surveying equipment.
6. GIS and Database Management
- Assist in using GIS software for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Contribute to the management and maintenance of geological databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
7. Reporting
- Prepare basic technical reports and presentations summarizing geological findings and exploration activities.
- Assist in creating visuals and illustrations for reports and presentations.
8. Team Collaboration
- Collaborate
effectively with other geologists, engineers, and field staff to
integrate geological data into exploration and mining plans. - Communicate findings and updates clearly within the geological team and with other stakeholders.
9. Health and Safety
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during fieldwork and laboratory activities.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
10. Continuous Learning
- Stay updated with advancements in geological techniques, sampling methodologies, and industry best practices.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance geological knowledge and skills.
- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor from time totime.

Key Qualifications:
1. Academic and Experience Qualifications.
- Diploma or Bachelor degree in Geology, Geological Sciences, or a related field.
2. Technical Competencies.
- Familiarity with relevant weight regulations and compliance standards.
- Basic mathematical skills and the ability to accurately calculate weights.
- Attention to detail and precision in recording information.
- Physical
ability to stand for extended periods(when need be) and perform tasks
related to the operation of weighbridge equipment.
3. Behavioural Competencies.

4. Experience.

Assistant Safety Officer is responsible for assisting the HSE Officer
in the implementation of safety protocols, conducting safety
inspections, and supporting accident prevention initiatives. The role
ensures compliance with safety regulations and contributes to creating a
secure work environment for all employees and contractors
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Inspections
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the workplace, equipment, and machinery to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
- Report findings of the inspection to the HSE Officer and assist in developing action plans to address identified issues.
2. Safety Training
- Assist in organizing and facilitating safety training sessions for employees and contractors.
- Ensure new employees receive comprehensive safety orientations and are aware of safety protocols.
3. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
- Assist in preparing reports on safety performance, incidents, and compliance for management and regulatory authorities.
4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Management
- Monitor the usage and condition of PPE and ensure employees are wearing appropriate gear.
- • Coordinate the distribution and replacement of PPE as needed.
5. Emergency Response
- Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures.
- Participate in emergency drills and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of response strategies.
6. Accident Investigation Support

- Support the HSE Officer in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
7. Safety Communication
- Assist in disseminating safety information, updates, and reminders to employees.
- Collaborate with the HSE Officer in creating safety awareness campaigns and materials.
8. Compliance Monitoring
- Assist in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
- Stay updated with relevant safety regulations and inform the HSE Officer of any changes.
9. Safety Culture Promotion
- Encourage and promote a strong safety culture within the organization.
- Organize safety awareness programs and recognition initiatives to motivate employees to prioritize safety.
10 .Collaboration and Support
- Collaborate with other departments and teams to ensure consistency in safety practices across the organization.
- Provide support to the HSE Officer in various safety-related initiatives and projects as instructed.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor from time to time.

- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field.

- Adaptation to new safety protocols and procedures.
3. Behavioral Competencies.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

4. Experience.
- Previous experience in a safety-related role, preferably in the industrial set up is desirable
