Overview
Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS)
is responsible for the maintenance and development of the trunk and
regional roads network in Tanzania Mainland. The agency also conducts
axle load control operations using weighbridge scales.
The Regional
Manager TANROADS Lindi, on behalf of the Chief Executive TANROADS, is
seeking suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill vacant posts
for the project of upgrading the Nachingwea – Ruangwa – Nanganga Road
(106km) to bitumen standard; Lot 1: Ruangwa-Nanganga Section (57.6km).

Available Positions
1. Highway Engineer (1 Post)
Entry Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian Citizen.
- A
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering,
Transportation Engineering, or equivalent qualifications from a
recognized institution. - At least 7 years of working experience in a related field.
- Must be registered by ERB as a Professional Engineer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise conformity to contract conditions and specifications.
- Review existing designs and advise the Resident Engineer on shortfalls.
- Identify and locate all beacons and benchmarks for contractor set out.
- Inspect completed works for compliance with technical specifications.
- Prepare and submit detailed progress reports with updated cost of civil works.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
2. Topographical Surveyor (1 Post)
Entry Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian Citizen.
- A
Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or
equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. - Must be registered by NCPS as a Professional Land Surveyor.
- 6 years of experience in road design and construction.
- Must have worked on at least two road construction projects in the last 6 years.
- At least 3 years of working experience in Sub-Saharan countries.
- Proficiency in English and Swahili is mandatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, and reports.
- Review survey data for accuracy.
- Identify and locate beacons and benchmarks.
- Coordinate findings with engineers and other stakeholders.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
3. Works Inspector – Road Works (2 Posts)
Entry Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian Citizen.
- A Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered by ERB as a Graduate Engineer with at least 3 years of relevant working experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect road works for compliance with technical specifications.
- Inspect the implementation of QA/QC procedures.
- Attend contractor’s request for inspection.
- Keep daily records for contractor’s equipment and personnel.
- Inspect site health and safety compliance.
- Submit daily progress reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
4. Works Inspector – Drainage/Structure (2 Posts)
Entry Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian Citizen.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered by ERB as a Graduate Engineer with at least 3 years of relevant working experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review structural drawings for conformity to standards.
- Inspect materials and completed works for compliance with specifications.
- Prepare mini progress reports on drainage works.
- Maintain a site diary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
5. Materials Technician (1 Post)
Entry Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian Citizen.
- A Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- At least 2 years of experience in soil/materials laboratory work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out in-situ testing.
- Monitor laboratory tests and trends.
- Undertake calibration of equipment.
- Prepare materials testing reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Materials Engineer.
Terms of Service: Successful applicants must be ready to work for extended periods in Nachingwea District, where the project is located.
The successful candidates will be engaged on a 1-year contract for specific tasks.
