LVIA
is looking for a Field Officer for the project entitled “Tunza
Majingira Tumia Jiko Banifu” – “Improve the Environment, use improved
cookstoves” within the Programme “Green Tanzania Cookstove Programme”
Project Location: Kongwa District of Dodoma Region
Office Location: Kongwa District of Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa)
Starting date: December 2024, 12 months contract, renewable
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: tsh 400.000 – 500.000, according to the experience and level of education of the selected candidate
Who we are
Lay
Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian NGO working
in ten African Countries including Tanzania. The Headquarters are based
in Cuneo, Italy while in Tanzania the offices are in Kongwa District of
Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa). LVIA has been working in Tanzania
for more than 30 years in supporting the community development
especially on Agriculture, Health, and the improvement of access to
potable water and Hygiene.
The project
LVIA is looking
for a Field Officer to be employed in the framework of the project
“Tunza Majingira Tumia Jiko Banifu” – “Improve the Environment, use
improved cookstoves” developed and run by OffgridSun within the
Programme “Green Tanzania Cookstove Programme”.
The project aims
to reduce reliance on traditional cooking methods in Kongwa District by
distributing 26,000 improved cookstoves across 30 villages. These
cookstoves, which are more efficient and produce less smoke, will
decrease firewood and charcoal consumption by up to 70%, mitigating
deforestation, reducing carbon emissions, and lowering respiratory
health risks.Additional objectives include
promoting environmental conservation through tree planting and
contributing to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as
poverty reduction, health improvement, gender equality, sustainable
economic growth, and ecosystem protection.
This objective can be achieved through the following expected results: Targeted households are provided with improved cookstoves
Distribution of 26.000 improved cookstoves and 52.000 tree plants within local communities
Organization of awareness-raising events on environmental protection and promotion of improved stoves in the target villages
The targeted cookstoves are functioning and are used by the beneficiaries
Duties and responsibilities
Under
the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Country Representative
the Field Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
TASKS:
- Support
the Project Coordinator in the implementation of the project,
facilitating at the local level the implementation of the project’s
activities. - Facilitate the contacts with the beneficiaries to be
involved (individuals or groups), as well as the organisation of
training and campaigns in collaboration with the associates and
Partners. - Identify key representatives for each village,
establish and maintain strong relationships with them to ensure
successful implementation for the entire project. - Collaborate with government authorities and project partners.
- Participate in the training and campaigns organized by the project.
- Conduct surveys, focus groups, and interviews to collect data.
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of the data and prepare regular reports.
- Participate in data system training and be proficient in uploading data efficiently.
- Coordinate distribution of project materials and resources.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor project progress, assess impact, and identify areas for improvement.
- Implements directly awareness campaigns and conduct sensitization activities in communities.
- Address challenges and conflicts in the field, providing practical solutions to ensure project continuity.
- Draft a work plan on a weekly basis to be reviewed and approved by the Project Coordinator or Project Assistant.
- Perform any other duty whenever required by the Project Coordinator or Project Assistant.

- Ability to build strong professional relationships with beneficiaries
- Ability to conduct a sensitization activity autonomously
- Capacity to relate with different ages of people (children and adults).
- Highly organized, with ability to create a unified team approach.
- Good interpersonal communication, report writing and computing skills
- Be well organized and work independently and as part of a team
- Problem solving skills
- Sensitive to gender equality issues

Requirements
ESSENTIAL:
The ideal candidate should possess a university degree or diploma in a relevant field such as:
- Rural community development
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Data collection
- Environmental studies
- While
a degree in one of these specific fields is preferred, it’s important
to note that equivalent qualifications or experience in related areas
might also be considered. This flexibility allows for a wider pool of
potential candidates with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. - And
also Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience as Field
Officer Proficiency in English and proven ability to write official
reports and documents in English and Kiswahili; - Proficiency in using smartphones and apps.
- Proficiency knowledge and usage of collection data systems or any data collection tool
- Be
a Tanzanian citizen, come from Kongwa District or have worked there for
several years with a deep knowledge of the local context of Kongwa
District - The Employee is requested to keep a flexible attitude
and good degree of adaptation to possible modifications and/or
integration to the foreseen duties on the basis of necessities that may
arise locally, and to make an effort to integrate his/her work in the
wider context of LVIA presence in Tanzania in order to facilitate
consistency and continuity among current and prospective projects.
PREFERRED:
- Relevant courses / certificates Previous experiences with international NGOs and donor funded projects
- Valid motorcycle riding permit
