is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita
Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an
international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with
operations in more than ten countries, in four continents. The mine is
situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of North Western Tanzania,
only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s South East of the
nearest point of Lake Victoria.
The company has its head office in
Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and also a
supporting office in Dar es Salaam.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Assist
in field monitoring of implementation of underground backfill
activities required for safe, efficient and optimal ore recovery for the
assigned underground mine(s).

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Undergraduate degree in Mining or Geology Engineering.

EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of 2 to 3 years in mining environment with some exposure to underground mine backfill systems.
• The
  incumbent must have at least basic knowledge of fundamental underground
  backfill mechanics, backfill selection and integration with mining,
  backfill systems and backfill materials.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Stope inspection after completion of mining.

• Assist
  in undertake underground visits with stakeholders to clear stopes and
  certify them if safe to proceed with backfill preparation.

Stope preparation prior to backfilling.

• Assist in supervising CAF holes drilling and civil works (hopper and ramp) prior to stopes filling.
• Assist
  in supervising construction of waste rock bunds and bumper blocks while
  ensuring that rehabilitation and installation ground control measures
  to secure the truck tip head and stope brow.
• Assist in
  supervising construction of safety areas, markers (e.g. tip head marker
  for tipping, signs indicating that the stope is being filled, access
  control and restriction measures at bund and brow area).

Backfill QA/QC monitoring and reporting.

• Assist
  in undertaking routine monitoring of the backfill quality to ensure
  that the CAF deposited underground meets the strength, quality, and
  placement requirements.
• Assist in undertaking routine Planned
  Task Observations (PTOs) of the backfill process (plant, distribution)
  to ensure compliance with design specifications.
• Assist in undertaking ongoing monitoring of the stope backfilling progress against the mine’s backfilling plan.

Safety.

• Learn and follow the Safety requirements related to your work.
• Consider what could go wrong and what needs to be done to work safely before starting a task.
• Speak up if you think a task cannot be done safely.
• Continually look for new hazards in the workplace and report them to your supervisor.
• Talk to your supervisor when you are not fit for work.
• Suggest ways to improve Safety performance.
• Promptly report all injuries, illnesses, and incidents
• Help others to work safely.
• Conduct Critical Control Verification as per requirement.

• Good understanding and application of rock mass classification and data reduction/analysis
• Good understanding and application of Geotechnical Risk Management
• Good understanding of Soil and Rock Testing and Analysis techniques
• Basic knowledge and application of Backfill Selection and Integration with Mining
• Basic knowledge and application of Backfill Systems
• Basic knowledge and application of Backfill Materials
• Good communication skills
