Purpose of the Job
We are looking for a Fleet Manager (M/F) based in Tanzania.
The
Fleet Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing all
company vehicles to support operations in the most efficient way
possible, ensuring vehicles are available, reliable, and safe at all
times. The Fleet Manager will develop, refine, and implement preventive
maintenance programs while ensuring compliance with organizational
policies, government regulations, and manufacturer requirements.
- Coordinate, manage, and oversee the maintenance, repair, replacement, and logistics of company vehicles.
- Ensure that preventive maintenance programs are executed on schedule and monitor the performance of past repairs.
- Supervise and, if necessary, facilitate timely repairs and servicing of damaged vehicles to minimize downtime.
- Manage the inventory of spare parts for vehicles, in coordination with the Supply Chain Manager, to ensure an adequate supply.
- Conduct
analysis of vehicle conditions and provide recommendations for timely
replacements, including vehicle types, spare parts, etc., to improve
cost efficiency.
- Control the transfer and movement of vehicles between site locations as required by various departments.
- Provide recommendations to reduce vehicle operating expenses and minimize vehicle idle time.
- Ensure all vehicle operation policies and systems are up to date and enforced across field operations.
- Review and update vehicle fleet policies regularly, at least once a year.
- Demonstrate strong managerial and communication skills, with a keen sense of commercial awareness.
- Ability to manage teams effectively and think innovatively to solve problems.
- Collaborate well in a team-based environment and contribute to collective success.
- Communicate
regularly with project staff and teams to ensure commercial controls
are in place, understood, and consistently followed.
- Assist in developing strategies to achieve the company’s mission, vision, and organizational goals.
- Analyze maintenance costs and provide recommendations on fleet utilization and vehicle replacement.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance records for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Oversee procurement processes for required inventory.
- Analyze and evaluate department performance to ensure efficiency.
- Manage vendor negotiations and ensure vendor performance aligns with contract requirements for the Fleet Department.
- Supervise
the daily operations of the Fleet Department, assessing risks and
safety issues to ensure safe and efficient repairs to fleet and
equipment.
- Assist in recovery activities following natural disasters.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Department for effective recruitment and orientation of Fleet Department employees.
- Conduct
performance appraisals and work with Human Resources to develop
training and development plans for Fleet Department employees.
- Foster a positive culture and work environment within the Fleet Department

Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university.
- Fleet Management qualification is essential.
- Minimum
of 3 years’ experience in Fleet Management, mechanical maintenance,
preventive maintenance, budget administration, contract management, and
tendering procedures, with at least 2 years’ experience in a senior
role.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, tools,
equipment, and materials used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and
fleet management.
- Strong understanding of reporting and budgeting processes.
- Ability to research and address safety and risk management issues and identify appropriate methods to mitigate them.
- High level of professionalism, maturity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage pressure effectively.
- Multi-tasking, self-motivated, energetic team player with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Capable of providing both detailed and summarized reports on current activities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and fleet management systems.
