VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Six
Rivers Africa (SRA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to
protect, restore and preserve wilderness areas, and increase the
wildlife population, so that the flora and fauna can be enjoyed for
generations to come.
Six Rivers Africa is looking for a
Senior Project Officer (SPO) for Human Wildlife Coexistence Project to
implement conservation compatible community development interventions in
communities and schools adjacent to Usangu sector of Ruaha National
Park in Mbarali, Mbeya; and Msolwa sector of Nyerere National Park in
Ifakara, Morogoro.
Role purpose
The SPO will be
responsible for overseeing, planning, monitoring, and coordinating the
quality implementation of the Human Wildlife Coexistence Project in
Ifakara TC and Mbarali DC. The incumbent will also be responsible for
day-to-day supervision in the implementation of project activities and
the management of implementation teams including Project Officers,
Community Resource Persons, and beneficiaries in project sites. The SPO
will also play a key role in review of SRA’s M&E framework and the
institutionalization of all required systems, tools, reports and
indicators required for efficient and effective implementation of
M&E framework and activities; specifically ensuring compliance with
donor rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Designs and oversees the monitoring and evaluation activities of the SRA’s projects both inside and outside the park.
- Work
closely with Impact Manager to co-design monitoring tools, selecting
indicators, and determining field monitoring responsibilities. Works to
ensure tool compatibility and coordination within the M&E framework,
and consistency with donor requirements. - Responsible for
providing technical assistance, developing and setting up systems for
the timely collection, management, analysis, and reporting of valid and
reliable data that meet the organization and donor reporting
requirements. - Conduct regular visit to Six Rivers Africa conservation sites for data collection and documentation of key deliverables.
- Undertake
periodic reviews of program and/or organizations M&E systems
(M&E Frameworks) and participate in planning M&E system
strengthening actions. - Oversee and manage Human Wildlife
Coexistence Project staff, including preparing ToR, work plans, and
undertaking annual performance appraisals.
Project Management:
- Oversee
and lead the implementation of all project activities related to Human
Wildlife Coexistence Project, including budgeting, planning,
implementation, management, monitoring, and reporting in the fields. - Ensure the long-term impact of project interventions through timely and quality delivery of project outputs and outcomes.
- Responsible
for developing project performance reports, success stories and
documentation of the best practices and lessons learnt. - Preparing and updating the project activities plan, including cost control and budget compliance.
- Responsible for providing technical guidance on implementation of conservation compatible livelihood activities of the project.
- Closely
collaborating with other relevant like-minded organizations working on
wildlife conservation and community development projects in respective
project sites. - Represent SRA at events and meetings both at district and national level.
- Carry out other relevant tasks on request and agreement with the line manager.
Financial Management:
- Managing activity spending on the ground, ensuring value for money and integrity in all spending
- Keep record of all expenditure, ensuring proper documentation and receipts are available for every expenditure.
- Keeping track of budget and ensuring all project spending is within budget lines.
- Preparing financial reports for projects.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s
Degree (or higher) in Environmental Sciences, Project Management,
Community/Rural Development/, Economics or related courses, with at
least 5 years’ experience in wildlife / environmental conservation,
livelihoods, agricultural extension services or rural development.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
-
Experience implementing community development programs, especially in
rural communities, with a food security and livelihoods component
(agriculture, savings and loan groups, cash/voucher assistance, etc.). - Experience in monitoring and evaluating conservation projects is an advantage.
- Experience in implementing conservation projects is an advantage.
- Good written and spoken English; including documentation and report-writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage positively with people at all levels.
- Good training/facilitation skills.
- Experience in working with Government, NGOs, civil society organizations, etc., is an added advantage.
- Experience using software such as ArcGIS Pro, SPSS, and R project for statistical computing.
- Good skills in computer e.g. MS Word, MS Power Point and Excel.
- Experience developing activity budgets.
- Ability
to be self-sufficient and resourceful, proactive in identifying and
addressing challenges, yet consulting and asking for assistance as
needed/relevant. - Ability and willingness to be based in remote communities.
- Willing to commit to Six Rivers Africa’s values and principles.
