Main Purpose:
Oversees Corporate and Legal Affairs
Responsible
for managing the company’s reputation with key stakeholders and the
public in general. At the helm of Managing Puma Energy Tanzania’s image
in the world of business which entail raising the profile of the Puma
Energy brand across key stakeholders and customers, leveraging strategic
communications, stakeholder engagement and thought leadership.

Provision
of counsel to the General Manager on government & stakeholder
relations, media relations (proactive and reactive) and
thought-leadership, while ensuring effective digital and employee
engagement communication on specific LOB issues such as Business
cascade.

Act as Corporate Affairs point of contact for B2C and
retail leads. Translates complex commercial/legal scenarios into simple
language and action plans.
Manages
contract change control process and related correspondence requiring
legal input as well as applicable laws or regulations.

Managing
the legal portfolio in country including defending the company in
litigation or contentious matters, instituting legal proceedings were
applicable, getting involved in new business initiatives and new legal
projects to grow the company.
Manage the Company’s corporate governance structure and related company secretarial needs.

Corporate Affairs:

  • Supports
    the Business, in managing the organization’s relationship with all
    stakeholders including Government entities, Ministries, Relevant
    Authorities, and other influencers and opinion formers in the country.
    Oversees wider stakeholder engagement, including managing the top list
    of key stakeholders.
  • Providing advice and support to the General
    Manager, Management, the Board of Directors, and colleagues across the
    company in engaging stakeholders and in managing these relationships
  • Nurture
    a strong industry network, increase awareness, and develop an enviable
    corporate image by developing and executing effective communication and
    media relations programs.
  • Proactively manage the company’s reputation with key influencers and stakeholders in region or line of business
  • Develop programs to enhance brand awareness and engagement, guided by the corporate brand purpose, strategy and narrative.
  • Develop a Corporate Affairs/Legal communications plan including strategy, goals, budget, and tactics.
  • Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media.
  • Coordinate all public relations activities for Puma Energy Tanzania
  • Drive CSI/CSR initiatives for Puma Energy Tanzania
  • Supporting
    colleagues across Puma Energy by coordinating the company’s
    relationships with Government authorities including: EWURA, PBPA, TCAA,
    TAA, and relevant key ministries
  • Coordinating engagement and
    providing support to manage the company’s input to the Government
    advising senior colleagues on strategy and messaging for the Group, and
    ensuring that Government authorities are kept abreast of key issues
    relating to the Puma Energy
  • This position plays an important
    role in ensuring strong relationships with key stakeholders and the
    appropriate alignment of our work with the Tanzania government.
  • Second line crisis management for issues affecting our business in Tanzania.
  • Implement
    and adapt global campaigns into effective integrated campaigns to
    advance Puma’s interests and amplify marketing campaigns in Tanzania and
    for B2C and retail

Legal:

  • Delivering
    timely and high-quality legal advice to the business all in a practical
    and commercially focused way in relation to all relevant matters that
    reduce risk, resolve issues, and maximize the opportunity for the
    business to deliver on its goals.
  • Leading business affairs deal making and contractual negotiation in relation to the full breadth and depth of the business.
  • Ensuring
    the provision of excellent drafting, negotiating and management of
    contracts with customers and suppliers in a timely and effective way to
    deliver the best outcome.
  • Providing all business and legal
    affairs support required delivering firsthand, first class business and
    legal affairs support on matters of key strategic, financial and
    reputational importance to the business
  • Evaluating matters and the merits of new legal action and matters under defense,
  • Managing all litigation from inception to conclusion including existing matters
  • Keeping up to date with changes in applicable laws and Regulations.
  • Managing
    a legal budget and the output and service levels of external lawyers.
    To generally ensure that the company is at all times protected.
  • Generally managing commercial legal matters drafting, reviewing, negotiating a variety of commercial agreements.
  • Were applicable preparing board reports and presenting updates to the board on material legal matters
  • Being a trusted legal adviser to the business in all matters affecting the business

Company Secretarial:

  • Taking full responsibility for the Company’s corporate governance and related administration,
  • Act
    as a the formally appointed Secretary to the Company and to the Board
    of Directors responsible for organizing the Board and Committee
    meetings, Board Trainings and Evaluations, and Retreats,
  • Engaging
    with (and effectively manage) all relevant stakeholders (Board Members,
    Shareholders, Members of Management) both internal and external
  • Reviewing and approving Board and Committee Papers,
  • Taking and keeping records of Board and Committee Meetings,
  • Handling the budget for Board Members remuneration,
  • Ensuring the records of the company are up to date.

Requirements:

  • A
    recognized degree in Law is desired with a minimum of 5 years’
    experience in both legal and corporate environment in a leadership role
    managing or supervising personnel.
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework
  • Must be a registered Advocate in Tanzania

  • Understanding of oil business and regulatory processes
  • Managerial experience in corporate environment

  • Outstanding written communication skills including the ability to draft briefings and correspondence at the most senior level.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to present clearly at a senior level.
  • Ability to understand, analyses and develop recommendations in complex areas.
  • Excellent understanding of the work of relevant government departments

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Power Point and Excel.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and aviation operating procedures and standards
  • Project management to manage and execute projects on time and within budget.
  • Successful track record in achieving tasks and managing people.
  • Familiarity
    with company secretarial requirements and regulatory environments,
    including company law principles and corporate governance best practice.
  • Strong generalist legal knowledge.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Superior ability to manage time and prioritize tasks appropriately having regard to the dynamic nature of the role.
  • Strong ability to manage independence.

Competencies:

  • Proven working experience in public relations required.
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and national level.
  • Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media.
  • Exposure to communications, CR and brand in previous jobs is desirable.
  • Work experience with a multinational company is desirable.
  • Ability to work under pressure, agile mindset to adapt to different functions ie legal, Cosec, Corporate Affairs
